These chia seed crackers may have well become my new ally in the kitchen. Why? Well, lately I have been doing a lot of sport and my energy levels were sometimes low in this quite intensive life. Secondly, because I like to make sure that there is the least processed food possible in my fridge and my cupboards. Lastly, because in the attempt to reduce to a maximum animal-sourced food (eggs, dairy and meat of course) I have been preparing tons of dips (tapenade, eggplant caviar, artichoke caviar, pestos etc….). And all those dips need to go somewhere. And this somewhere is either a piece of bread, either a cracker.

What if I told you that this cracker could be made without flour and oil. That it is made almost completely of seeds (the rest being salt, herbs and spices). That they are vegan, gluten-free. What would you say? I would say: go for it!

These chia seed crackers are solely made of grains, chia seeds and seasonings. The pumpkin, sunflower, flax, sesame, poppy and the chia seeds transform these crackers into a pack of proteins, fibers, omega 3. But what holds the whole thing together would you ask? Well… the chia seeds. Scientifically known as Salvia Hispanica, they have entered the Bible of the “superfoods”. These seeds, originally grown in Mexico, are known for their nutrition and energy boosting power. Plus, they are a great binding reagent in food. This is why you might know it in smoothies, puddings and more jelly things…

Why eating chia seed crackers?

Its alleged benefits go from anti-aging (due to their antioxidant activities) to cardio-vascular health (due to its anti-inflammation properties). It also brings calcium (bone health), potassium, magnesium, dietary fibers (digestive health), omega 3 (heart protection) and proteins (helps to build muscle and lose weight) to your body.

Now you know why these chia seed crackers might be a good add on to your diet and eating habits!

Regarding the seasoning, it is really up to you! Put your favourite things in and personalize it as much as you can. I hope you will enjoy it!
