People think that doing homemade cleaning products is too complicated but this agar-agar air freshener will prove you the opposite. Not only making this air freshener is very easy, but it is also very cheap and it is 100% natural (even organic if you buy the right ingredients). It will bring a delicious scent to any room and avoid one more chemical product into the cupboard. So how does this air freshener look like? It is an agar-agar air freshener that will have a gel texture and will be infused with essential oil. The scent holds up to 2 weeks.
Made from seaweed proteins, agar-agar is an amazing replacement to gelatin (which you might know comes from animal source). The second part is choosing the essential oil that you prefer. I really like tea tree.
Then you will need a recipient to put the gel in (due to high temperatures you will need a glass recipient). I use old candle jars, which I clean taking the wax residues out and I put the DIY air freshener in. If you put it in a jar that does not have a lid on it, the smell will disappear way faster. If you put a lid, the air freshener will last longer but you will need to make little holes on the lid.. I leave it open because I think it looks nicer but it lasts less :).
Ingredients
- 1 mug of water
- 1 spoon of agar-agar
- 20 drops of essential oil (of your choice, I recommend tea tree to start).
How to make Agar-agar air freshener?
Start by putting 1 mug of water in a pan to simmer. Once the water is hot add the essential oil and the agar-agar. Stir it until the agar-agar dissolves. Turn the heat off and very carefully transfer to the recipient you have chosen. Let it cool down to room temperature and you will see that the agar-agar will thicken. Your gel air freshener is ready. Now, that was easy right?
